Rishabh Pant brought to Mumbai, ready for surgery

Star wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant is “all set to undergo surgery” for a ligament injury that will rule him out of competitive cricket for an indefinite period, the Board of Cricket in India (BCCI) said on Wednesday. BCCI secretary Jay Shah said in a press release that Pant has been flown to Mumbai in an air ambulance from a hospital in Dehradun where he will undergo extensive treatment for knee and ankle ligament injuries. Pant had suffered injuries in a car accident on 30 December. The BCCI decided to fly Pant to Mumbai by air ambulance as he was not in a position to fly by any commercial airline. “Rishabh, who is undergoing treatment at Max Hospital, Dehradun following a car accident on December 30, will be brought to Mumbai in an air ambulance,” Shah said in the release. As reported earlier, Pant will be treated by renowned sports orthopedic surgeon Dinshaw Pardiwala. .

Shah said, “The board will make every effort to aid and accelerate the recovery process of Rishabh and provide him all possible support during this period.” ”

Twenty-five-year-old Pant narrowly escaped a horrific car accident when he was traveling from Delhi to his hometown Roorkee but lost control on National Highway 58 and his car crashed into a divider.Pant had bruises on his forehead, serious back injuries as well as injuries to his knee and ankle. Most of the injuries were minor but the ankle and knee injuries are worrying. However, being a centrally contracted cricketer from the BCCI, his injury treatment is the prerogative of the board. MRI of his injured knee and ankle could not be done as there was a lot of swelling. However, it is understood that any sports related injury for a centrally contracted cricketer will be treated by BCCI designated doctors and rehabilitation will take place under the supervision of the sports and medical science team at the National Cricket Academy under the leadership of Dr Nitin Patel. Pant will now miss the Test series against Australia and the lucrative Indian Premier League.
