Cricket coach arrested for talking ‘obscene’ to trainee players

Cricket coach Narendra Shah has been arrested for allegedly making ‘objectionable’ remarks to trainee players. Pankaj Gairola, the police officer investigating the case, said that Shah was arrested on Thursday night, immediately after being discharged from AIIMS Rishikesh. Shah was hospitalised, after he allegedly attempted suicide by consuming poison after the audio of him allegedly making ‘objectionable’ remarks to the trainee players went viral. The police reached the hospital as soon as they got information about Shah being discharged from the hospital.

Earlier, acting on a complaint by the father of a girl taking training at his ‘Little Master Cricket Academy’, the police last month booked Shah under Section 354 of the Indian Penal Code, the POCSO Act and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Act. was registered. After this, two more trainee cricketers also came forward and gave a complaint against Shah. The police have also recorded the statements of the three girls who complained. Shah had attempted suicide by consuming poison on March 24 after audio purportedly of Shah having obscene conversations with girls went viral. He was, however, immediately admitted to the hospital where the treatment of the doctors saved his life. Taking cognizance of the matter, the Uttarakhand Cricket Association also removed Shah from the post of co-coordinator. The association had given him the responsibility of women’s cricket.
