Govind, Anamika and Anupama Strandja in final of boxing tournament

Indian boxers Govind Kumar Sahni, Anamika and Anupama stormed into the finals of the 74th Strandja Memorial boxing tournament after winning their respective matches here on Saturday. Govind defeated Georgia’s Luka Kublashvili 4-1 in the men’s 48kg semi-finals. Govind will take on 2023 Asian Under-22 Championships silver medalist Shodiorjon Melikuziev of Uzbekistan in the final on Sunday. In the women’s 50kg category, Anamika defeated France’s Wasilla Khadiri 4-1.

She will face China’s Hu Mei in the final on Sunday. Anupama registered a hard-fought 3-2 win over World Championship bronze medalist Jessica Bagley of Australia in the women’s 81kg category. She will take on Emma Sue Greentree of Australia in the final. In the other semi-final bouts, S Kalavani, Shruti Yadav and Monika suffered identical 0-5 defeats. Both Mohammad Hussamuddin (57kg) and Mahi Lama (63kg) had suffered similar 0-5 defeats to Artur Bazeyan of Armenia and Keona Sam-Sin of the Netherlands late on Friday night.
