For Rajasthan, Trent Boult and Yuzvendra Chahal took three wickets each, while R Ashwin took two wickets in his account. Earlier, opener Yashasvi Jaiswal (60 runs) and Jos Buttler (79 runs) continued their excellent form and played half-century innings. The opening pair of Jaiswal and Butler shared a 98-run partnership in 51 balls. Jaiswal hit 11 fours and a six during his spectacular 31-ball knock while Butler hit 11 fours and a six in 51 balls. Taking full advantage of the lifeline, Shimron Hetmyer finally scored an unbeaten 39 off 21 balls with one four and two sixes. Two of these sixes were hit in the last over. Jaiswal, while batting amazingly, started the team with a bang by hitting Khaleel Ahmed (31 runs in two overs) for five fours in the very first over, which also made it the most expensive first over of this IPL. Jos Buttler hit three fours in the second over, which took eight fours in two overs. Rajasthan Royals completed 50 runs in four overs, out of which 40 runs were made from fours (10). Due to this, the team’s score in Powerplay was 68 runs without losing wickets. Jaiswal completed his half-century in 25 balls with 11 fours.

The first six of the innings also came off the bat of Jaiswal, who picked up the ball of chinaman spinner Kuldeep Yadav (1/31) and sent it to long off. Mukesh Kumar (2 wickets for 36 runs) got Delhi Capitals the first success by taking the wicket of dangerous looking Jaiswal. Mukesh’s short ball lifted Jaiswal’s bat and the bowler ended his innings by taking a catch on his own ball. Rajasthan Royals got their first blow in the ninth over. Captain Sanju Samson kept walking to Kuldeep’s ball in an attempt to hit a six, but the team had completed 100 runs before he left. After these two shocks, the run rate of Rajasthan Royals slowed down a bit. During this, Butler completed his Pachasa by hitting a six over midwicket on Akshar Patel. For this, he hit seven fours and a six in 32 balls. After this, the team also lost the wicket of Riyan Parag (07) cheaply. Butler and Hetmyer added 49 runs in 29 balls for the fifth wicket. Mukesh ended this partnership in a very interesting way by taking the catch of Butler on his own ball.
