Day not in favor of Indian badminton, Pranay, Sameer Srikanth also out in French Open

Indian badminton players HS Prannoy and Sameer Verma suffered defeat in the men’s singles of the French Open Super 750 tournament. Prannoy, a member of the Thomas Cup winning team, lost 19-21 22-20 19-21 in a tight match against China’s Liu Guang Zhu in the pre-quarterfinals on Thursday night, while Sameer went straight to Thailand’s Kunlawut Vitidasarn. Lost 18-21 11-21 in the game.

Kidambi Srikanth also crashed out of the tournament with a three-game 21-19, 12-21, 19-21 loss to Denmark’s Rasmus Gemke in a match that lasted one hour and 15 minutes. The seventh seeded men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty are now India’s only challenger in the tournament. The pair of Satwik and Chirag defeated Malaysian pair of Man Wei Chong and Kai Woon Tee 21-16, 21-14 in the pre-quarterfinals. The pair will meet the top seeded Japanese pair of Takuro Hohei and Yugo Kobayashi in the quarterfinals.
