Sen faces Srikanth in first round of French Open badminton
Commonwealth Games champion Lakshya Sen will face Kidambi Srikanth in the first round of the French Open badminton, starting here on Tuesday. Sen and Srikanth are ranked eighth and 11th respectively in the world rankings. The two will face each other for the second time in their careers. Sen had lost to Kodai Naraoka of Japan in the quarter-finals of the Denmark Open. Earlier, Srikanth had defeated Sen in the 2021 World Championship in which he won a silver medal.
The winner of this match could face world number two Anders Antonsen of Denmark in the next round. HS Prannoy will play Malaysia’s Daren Liu in the first round against whom he has a 7. 4 is the record. Olympic bronze medalist Saina Nehwal will play Germany’s Vonne Li in the first round. Commonwealth Games gold medalist men’s doubles team Satwik Sairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty will face Japan’s Takuro Hoki and Yuo Kobayashi. Trisa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand will compete in women’s doubles while Ishaan Bhatnagar and Tanisha Crasto will compete in mixed doubles.
