Islamabad. Pakistan’s new Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif will visit Saudi Arabia this week on his first foreign visit. Shahbaz (70) was sworn in as the 23rd Prime Minister of Pakistan on April 11 after Imran Khan was ousted via a no-confidence motion. Foreign Ministry spokesman Asim Iftikhar Ahmed said in a daily press conference on Monday, the Prime Minister will be on an official visit to Saudi Arabia at the end of the week along with a high-level delegation.

This will be his first foreign visit as the Prime Minister of Pakistan. Shahbaz will go to Mecca and do Umrahi on the side of his journey. In his first address to parliament soon after his election as the country’s prime minister, Shahbaz had highlighted the special relationship he has with Saudi Arabia. Saudi King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman had earlier sent congratulatory messages to Shahbaz on becoming the new Prime Minister of Pakistan and wished him success. In 1990, General Pervez Musharraf overthrew Nawaz Sharif’s government, after which Shahbaz and his family had to live in exile for eight years in Saudi Arabia. He returned to Pakistan in the year 2007.
