Shikhar Dhawan to lead Punjab Kings in 2023 Indian Premier League
Veteran opener Shikhar Dhawan will replace Mayank Agarwal as the captain of the Punjab Kings team in the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL). This decision was taken in the board meeting of the franchise on Wednesday. Agarwal had failed to take his team to the IPL playoffs earlier this year and hence he was set to be dropped from the captain’s post. Agarwal was appointed as the captain for the 2022 season following KL Rahul’s decision to join the Lucknow Super Giants. The team did not perform well under his leadership and Agarwal himself could only score 196 runs at an average of 16.33.

The franchise was looking at making Dhawan the captain last year itself but decided to go ahead with Agarwal. IPL sources told PTI, “The board has decided to make Dhawan the captain. He has good experience as a player and captain in the IPL and did well in his first season for the team.
