Shooter Yashasvi will take part in Asian Championship, is part of strong shooting team

Pithoragarh. Very few people are born with pleasures, but more importantly, how do you take advantage of them. Manoj Joshi knows this very well. He established a shooting academy in his locality at Chandak in Pithoragarh district. His goal was clear.

He wanted to see his daughter representing India and his daughter Yashasvi did not disappoint her father. Yashasvi will be part of India’s 36-member strong team participating in the Asian Airgun Championships to be held in Daegu, South Korea from November 9-21.

The successful young lady will present the challenge in the 10m Air Pistol category. This is their first international tournament and the presence of experienced shooters like Manu Bhaker and Ridham Sangwan in the team will certainly benefit them. Yashasvi was selected in the national team on Monday after performing well in trials at Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range in New Delhi. Yashasvi’s father and coach Manoj said that this is the result of his hard work and commitment towards the game. Joshi himself is a passionate shooter and has been a state champion in the past.

He opened the academy to fulfill his dream of making his daughter an international shooter. Joshi said that after participating in 10m and 25m air pistol category from 2013 to 2017 at the state and national level, I started a shooting academy named ‘Bulls Eye’ near my home in Chandak of Pithoragarh district. Yashasvi’s selection for the national shooting team has not only recognized the talent of the 17-year-old but also recognized his father’s efforts to hone his skills in the sport. Joshi said Yashasvi started shooting at the age of 11. She has won many awards in junior and youth category at the state level and also won a bronze medal at the national level in the same category.

Yashasvi may have inherited his passion for the game from his father but he always showed his commitment and interest in learning new tricks. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also congratulated Yashasvi on her selection in the national shooting team for the Asian competition and hoped that she would make the state and the country proud.

Joshi told that the expenses of his academy are run from personal funds. He said that since the inception of the academy, we have groomed more than 13 young shooters. All of them have participated in state and national level competitions. Of these, three have won medals at the national level but have not received any help or financial support from the government or any organisation. We are running this with our limited resources.
