Shubman Gill scored a century on the home ground of IPL, said- don’t know when will get a chance to bat again on such a wicket

Ahmedabad. Young Indian opener Shubman Gill, who scored his maiden Test hundred on home soil in the fourth Test against Australia, said he was determined not to play loose shots on the most batting-friendly pitch he has ever faced in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Gill scored an innings of 128 runs in 235 balls on the third day of the game here on Saturday. In a video posted on ‘bcci.tv’, Gill said in an interview to his teammate Cheteshwar Pujara, “To be honest, I was thinking that I don’t know when I will get a wicket like this again.” I didn’t want to waste this opportunity by playing bad shots. That’s what was going through my mind.

He said, “It feels great to score a Test century in India. This is my first century (at home) and it is great to make it on my home ground of IPL in India. Gill has scored centuries in all formats while having a dreamy 2023. His maiden Test century came in the Chittagong Test against Bangladesh in December 2022. The spinners were getting some help during the third day’s play. Gill said his strategy was to be cautious against the spinners and compensate it by showing aggression against the fast bowlers.

He said, “I was restraining myself against the spinners and I could not do the same against the fast bowlers. You have to balance it and that’s what I was trying to do.” Gill said, “I was trying to be positive and was waiting to take a run and score runs off the bad ball.” And the pair of Pujara together added 113 runs for the second wicket.
