Sindhu hopes to be fit by World Tour final in December
Two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu hopes to make a comeback during the season-ending World Tour Finals in December after a long break from international tournaments due to an ankle injury. Sindhu, one of the fittest players in the international circuit, suffered a stress fracture in her left leg while winning a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham in August. Sindhu, the brand ambassador of ‘Brave Together Campaign’, told PTI, “The positive side is that I think this was the only time to take a break because next year is going to be very busy and there will be frequent tournaments.”
“The downside is that I had to take a break because of the injury. But it is important because you have to take care of your body and make sure that you stay fit and well. You have to keep yourself fit to deal with the level of the game.” Sindhu said, “It is important to recover early. I am getting better and hope to start playing in December.
Sindhu will miss this month’s Denmark Open (October 18-23) and French Open (October 25-30), the BWF World Tour Super 750 event. The World Tour Finals will be held in Guangzhou, China from December 14 to 18. Asked if this was the target, Sindhu said, “Yes, of course. I am not playing in Denmark and Paris. But I hope to be able to play there.
The 27-year-old from Hyderabad said that the mental health of players is neglected and it is important to talk about it. Earlier, players like former Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli, four-time Grand Slam winner Naomi Osaka of Japan and veteran gymnast Simone Biles of America have revealed their mental health issues.
