Southgate will remain with the England team even after the World Cup

England coach Gareth Southgate has confirmed that he will continue with the team after the World Cup. Southgate said after the World Cup quarter-final defeat to France that he needed time to consider his future. Southgate, however, has informed The Football Association (FA, England’s football federation) of his desire to guide the team to the European Championship in 2024, ending the uncertainty surrounding his position.

“We are delighted to confirm that Gareth Southgate will continue as England manager and lead the team’s campaign at Euro 2024,” the FA said in a statement on Sunday. Gareth and Steve Howland will always have our full support and our preparations for the Euros begin now. England had to face defending champions France 1-2 in the quarter-finals of the ongoing World Cup in Qatar. Southgate’s contract runs until December 2024 but after the defeat he said he did not think the deal would be completed.
