Spain to clash with Serbia, America to play Croatia in Davis Cup

London. World No. 1 Carlos Alcarez and No. 2 Novak Djokovic are set to clash in the Davis Cup as Spain and Serbia have been drawn in Group C of the team tennis tournament. Spain will host Group C in Valencia in September, which also features Czech Republic and South Korea apart from them and Serbia.

The US will face two-time champion Croatia in Group D, while the other two teams in the group are Finland and the Netherlands. Croatia will host the group but the city and venue are yet to be announced. Canada, who won the title for the first time last year, have been placed in Group A along with hosts Italy, Sweden and Chile. Hosts Britain, last year’s runners-up Australia, France and Switzerland have been placed in Group B.

The top two teams from each group will advance to the last eight tournament which will be played in Malaga, Spain in November. Spain had defeated Serbia in the group stage last year but then both Djokovic and Spain’s Rafael Nadal did not take part in that match. Alcarez, who this month overtook Djokovic to become the world number one, was part of the Spain squad last year but did not play against Serbia.
