Spanish league football tournament: Villarreal beat Real Madrid

Barcelona. Villarreal beat Real Madrid 2-1 in the Spanish league football tournament here on Saturday. Gerard Moreno, who was ruled out of Spain’s World Cup squad due to injury, set up a goal and assisted on one, setting up Villarreal’s victory. Moreno’s pass from Jeremy Pino gave Villarreal the lead in the 47th minute. Karim Benzema converted the penalty in the 60th minute after a handball by Villarreal’s Euan Foyth to make it 1-1.

Madrid defender David Alba also handballed Foyth’s pass, and this time Morena scored a penalty in the 63rd minute to put Villarreal ahead 2–1 in what proved to be the decisive score. In other matches of the day, Marloca beat Valladolid 1-0 with a goal from Ebdon Prates, while Girona and Espanyol drew 2-2.
