Sri Lanka enter Super 12 after defeating Netherlands by 16 runs

Kusal Mendis’ 79 helped Asian champions Sri Lanka beat the Netherlands by 16 runs to enter the Super 12 stage of the T20 World Cup. Mendis scored 79 runs in 44 balls for the Sri Lankan team that lost to Namibia in the first match, with the help of which his team scored 162 for six while batting first.

In reply, after defeating Namibia and UAE in Group A, the top-ranked Netherlands could only manage 146 runs for nine wickets.Wanindu Hasaranga took three wickets for 28 runs in four overs while Mahish Teekshana got two wickets. Opener Max O’Dowd for the Netherlands scored an unbeaten 71 off 53 balls with the help of six fours and three sixes. However, he could not get any support from the other end.

The Sri Lankan team has reached the Super 12 stage with four points from three matches while the Dutch team will have to wait for the outcome of the match between UAE and Namibia. If Namibia wins, the Dutch team may have to drop out.
