Srinu, Sanjeevani to lead Indian challenge at Tata Steel Kolkata 25K Marathon

Defending champion Srinu Bugatha and in-form Sanjivani Jadhav will spearhead the Indian challenge at the 2022 Tata Steel Kolkata 25K (25 km) Marathon, to be held here on Sunday. Srinupurush will look to defend his title in the category in the seventh season of World Athletics’ elite label marathon. The total prize money of the competition is one lakh dollars. Srinu had finished third among Indian runners in the prestigious Delhi Half Marathon in October. He was also the winner of 2021 New Delhi Marathon and 2020 Tata Mumbai Marathon. Srinu is expected to face stiff competition from Abhishek Pal and Harshad Mhatre.

Pal was the Indian Elite category winner at the TCS World 10 Bangalore Marathon in May this year. He won gold in 5000 meters in the National Games and 10,000 meters in the National Inter-State Athletics Championships. Durga Bahadur Buddha, Mansingh and Murli Gavit will also present the challenge. In the women’s section, Sanjivani is a strong contender for the title. He won titles in the Delhi Half Marathon and the 10000 meters event in the Federation Cup. Sanjeevani may face tough competition from Kavita Yadav and Arpita Saini, who finished third in the 10000m event of the Federation Cup and the National Inter-State Athletics Meet this year. The list of international runners this year includes Commonwealth Games champion Victor Kiplanagat in the men’s section and Ethiopia’s Eshete Bekere, the Tokyo Marathon 2022 runner-up in the women’s section.
