England captain Jos Buttler is delighted that Ben Stokes is back in form and said that with his immense talent, he can play multiple roles in the team. Stokes, who could not shine in the tournament so far, took the team out of trouble in the crucial match against Sri Lanka on Saturday to win the team by four wickets. With this, England has entered the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup.
Butler said after the match, “He is made to play in these kind of conditions. I am happy for him. When he is at the crease, we are at ease.” He added, “He can play a variety of roles. He is an effective player in all three genres. We will see him continue to play well beyond this stage of the tournament. He is a vital member of the team and knows how to play well in tough times.
Sri Lankan captain Dasun Shanaka feels his team’s balance has been disturbed due to injuries to several key players. He said, “We played good piece-by-piece cricket but injuries to some players made a difference otherwise we would have done well.” He, however, added that the team will have to improve its performance in many aspects. “Catching has been a problem in the tournament. We have to improve it.
