FIR against former cricketer Vinod Kambli for beating his wife

Mumbai Police has registered an FIR against former India cricketer Vinod Kambli for allegedly thrashing and abusing his wife in an inebriated state. An official of Bandra police station said that no arrests have been made so far in connection with Friday’s incident. He said that on Sunday, two policemen went to Kambli’s flat and served a notice asking him to appear before them to record his statement. Kambli’s wife Andrea has alleged that Kambli had thrown a cooking utensil at her, injuring her head.

The incident took place on Friday between 1.30 pm and 1.30 pm when Kambli reached his Bandra home in an inebriated state and started abusing his wife. The official said that his wife has said in her complaint that their 12-year-old son was also present who tried to intervene but Kambli went to the kitchen and picked up a broken frying pan and hit his wife, causing injuries. Later, Kambli’s wife went to Bhabha Hospital for examination. Based on his complaint, the police registered an FIR against Kambli under sections 324 and 504 of the IPC. The matter is under investigation.
