Sunil Gavaskar suggested the captain of the Indian cricket team to take a break

New Delhi. Veteran batsman Sunil Gavaskar believes that Mumbai Indians and India captain Rohit Sharma should take a short break from the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) to prepare for the World Test Championship (WTC) final in June. Keep yourself fresh. Gavaskar opined that Rohit may return for the last three-four matches of Mumbai Indians’ IPL campaign so that he is in good shape for the WTC final.

The WTC final will begin on June 7 at the Oval in London while the IPL final will be played on May 28. Mumbai Indians have played seven matches in the IPL so far and Rohit has had mixed success with the bat. He has scored 181 runs in IPL so far which includes a half-century. He averages 25.86 and has a strike rate of 135.07. Gavaskar said, “I would like to say honestly that Rohit should take rest for some time and keep himself fit for the World Test Championship final. He might come back for the last few matches but right now he should rest himself for some time.

He said, “I think he needs some rest at this stage. He may come back for the last three or four matches so that his rhythm is maintained for the World Test Championship final. Must have gone He said, “Right now I would like to see some changes in the batting order of Mumbai Indians. He (Rohit) looks a bit worried. Maybe at this stage he is thinking about the WTC (final), I don’t know.”

Mumbai Indians are currently placed seventh with three wins in as many matches and Gavaskar believes that only a miracle can get them a place in the playoffs. He said, “It would be a miracle if they make it to the playoffs in the current state they are in. He can stay at number four but he will have to perform exceptionally well with the bat and the bowling.
