Suryakumar said late debut, hunger for runs has increased due to struggles

Suryakumar Yadav was in his 30s when he made his India debut but the flamboyant batsman says late selection only strengthened his resolve and fueled his hunger to succeed at the top level. Suryakumar played another incredible inning in the shortest format when he scored an unbeaten 112 off 51 balls against Sri Lanka in the third and final T20 International as India won the series 2-1 with a 91-run win. Suryakumar told India head coach Rahul Dravid, “It has increased my hunger (for runs) now.”

He said, “I mean the amount of domestic cricket that I have played, I have always enjoyed playing for my state Mumbai and I have always tried to do well.” The right-handed batsman said, ‘Enjoyed batting here as well. Yes, it was a bit challenging in the last few years but I kept telling myself why do you play this game, enjoy it, the passion for this game kept me going so I kept going. was organized by BCCI TV.

Dravid started the conversation in a lighter vein, saying, “It is good that I have someone here with me, who did not see me bat in my childhood.” To this Suryakumar replied, “No, I Saw (you batting).” Suryakumar’s batting is in stark contrast to the way Dravid played his cricket and the former India captain was pointing the same way. Dravid then asked if he could pick one or two innings which he felt were his best.

Suryakumar said, “Actually it is difficult for me to choose any one innings. I enjoyed batting in all the tough conditions where I went to bat. Whatever I did in the last one year, I just enjoyed my game. I am doing the same thing again.’ He added, ‘As I said before, I try to enjoy and express myself as much as possible. In those tough conditions, teams try to win matches. I try to keep the team in the match. If it works well for me and the team, then I am happy.

Suryakumar gave the credit of his success in recent times to his family and also to Dravid. Dravid was in charge of the team when the batsman was cementing its place at the India A level. He said, “The role of family has been most important in my cricket journey so far. He was the one who helped me when I started playing cricket. My father is an engineer so there is no history of sports in my family. I had to be a little detached so that he could see the spark in me and support me.” Suryakumar said, “He and obviously my wife have made a lot of sacrifices. Since our marriage, she has been putting a lot of emphasis on me in terms of nutrition and staying fit.
