Swiss Open: Sindhu will return to the path of victory

Basel. Struggling with poor form, defending champion P V Sindhu will look to get back to winning ways at the Swiss Open Super 300 tournament starting here on Tuesday. World No. 9 HS Prannoy, who finished runner-up last time around, would also like to do better after a second-round exit from the All England Championship. Fifth seed Prannoy, however, will face 2018 World Championship silver medalist Shi Yuqi of China, who finished runner-up last week in Birmingham, in the first round. Prannoy has been a consistent performer for India in singles while Sindhu and Lakshya Sen have struggled to find their rhythm this season.

Sindhu had parted ways with her Korean coach Park Tae Sang after not producing good results after being sidelined for a long time due to injury. She had crashed out in the first round last week after losing to China’s Zhang Yiman. Two-time Olympic medalist Sindhu will take on local player Jenjira Stadelmann in the first round. Sen, who had earlier exited Malaysia and India Open, beat Chou Tien Chen last week but lost to two-time World Championship medalist Anders Antonsen of Denmark. He will face Lee Cheuk Yew of Hong Kong.

Semi-finalists Trisa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand will face second seeds Apriyani Rahayu and Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti in the first round at the All England Championship. In the Purva category, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty will take on any pair from the qualifiers to reach the main draw.
