Table tennis star Manika Batra gains, reaches career-best 35th position in world rankings

New Delhi. Star Indian table tennis player Manika Batra on Tuesday gained three places to reach a career-best 35th ranking in the ITTF world rankings. The 27-year-old starred in the Asian Cup in November to win India its first ever medal. Manika defeated world number five Hina Hayata of Japan and world number seven Chen Shingtong of China to win a historic bronze medal in Bangkok.

Manika got 175 ranking points from this performance, which helped her to move up in the rankings. Manika also made it to the semi-finals of two WTT Contender tournaments in Hungary and Slovenia. Manika said that my performance in the Asian Cup is among my best performance along with Commonwealth Games 2018. I enjoyed my game and was very confident. Manika won a medal in the Asian Cup after returning empty-handed from the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

Manika had won four medals including two gold medals in Gold Coast four years before this. Manika will now compete in the Asian qualification tournament for the World Championships in Doha. She will compete in the WTBT Contender in Doha this month and then in the WTT Star Contender in Goa next month. In the men’s rankings, G Sathiyan remained static at 39th while veteran Sharath Kamal slipped three places to be at 47th.
