Manu, Divyansh and Aishwarya in team for World Championship and Asian Games

Olympians Manu Bhaker, Divyansh Singh Panwar and Aishwarya Pratap Singh Tomar have been included in the Indian shooting team selected for the upcoming ISSF World Championships and Asian Games. However, 2018 Asian Games gold medalist and former Youth Olympic champion Saurabh Chowdhary could not make it to the squads announced on Saturday for the two big tournaments. The sport’s governing body in the country, the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI), announced the Indian rifle and pistol teams for the upcoming World Championship to be held in Baku, Azerbaijan in August and the Asian Games to be held in Hangzhou, China in September.

The shotgun team has already been announced. A 22-member rifle and pistol team will leave for Baku with 32 Paris Olympic quotas at stake, while a 21-member team will go to Hangzhou.Reigning men’s 10m air rifle world champion Rudranksh Patil has been included in the Asian Games squad based on the Paris quota winner’s selection criteria. For Hangzhou, Aashi Chokse replaced Tilotma Sen in the women’s air rifle team. She will compete in both the women’s rifle events as none of the top three women air rifle shooters could make it to the three positions (3P)., 

 Only five entries are allowed in each of the men’s and women’s rifle events at the Asian Games. The rest of the selections were done on the basis of rankings after the National Selection Trials 5 and 6 for Group A rifle and pistol shooters, which concluded at the Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range here on Friday. Trying to make a comeback in the Indian team after a long time, Chowdhary was part of the trials but could not make it.
