Harmanpreet’s half-century, Mumbai Indians set Gujarat Giants a target of 163 runs

Skipper Harnampreet Kaur struck a half-century as Mumbai Indians posted 162 for eight against Gujarat Giants in the Women’s Premier League here on Tuesday. Harmanpreet added 51 runs for the fourth wicket with Amelia Kerr (19) in addition to scoring 51 runs in 30 balls with seven fours and two sixes, adding 51 runs in the last over. Opener Yastika Bhatia (44) and Nat Sciver Brunt (36) had earlier put on a solid platform for the team by adding 74 runs for the second wicket. Ashleigh Gardner took three wickets for 34 runs from Gujarat.

Captain Sneh Rana bowled economically and took one wicket for 17 runs in four overs. Gujarat captain Sneh Rana won the toss and elected to bowl first, and Ashleigh Gardner had Hayley Mathews (00) caught at cover by Sophia Dunkley on the fourth ball of the innings. Nat Sciver Brunt looked in good touch from the start. He hit Mumbai’s first boundary in the third over with a four off Sneh and then hit two fours off Kim Garth. Yestika picked up the pace after a slow start.

Harmanpreet hit Sutherland for two sixes in the 19th over but Humaira Qazi (02) was run out trying to take an unnecessary second run. Harmanpreet hit Gardner for two consecutive fours to reach her half-century in 29 balls but Harleen Deol caught her brilliantly at the boundary on the next ball.
