Lord of the Rings star says Peter Jackson was advised to kill a hobbit, however denied

Master of the Rings entertainer Dominic Monaghan has said thanks to Peter Jackson for denying a studio solicitation to kill off a hobbit.

Monaghan, who played the Hobbit Meriadoc “Cheerful” Brandybuck in the New Zealand-shot set of three, told IGN there was pressure from studio executives to kill his person.

He said Jackson rejected their solicitations to have one of the hobbits kick the bucket. He said different hobbits, Frodo, Sam and Pippin would obviously have been kept alive for the story. Thus, had Jackson acknowledged their suggestion, it would have been his person to bite the dust.

“It’s absolutely impossible that they are killing Frodo and Sam, and the ones in particular that would be left would be Merry and Pippin. They wouldn’t kill Pippin since Pippin has a truly amazing story with Gandalf. It would have unquestionably been me,” he said.

Jackson got a great deal of acclaim for adhering near J. R. R. Tolkien’s unique story.

Monaghan said this was one model where the studio attempted to stray from the books, yet Jackson held fast.
