Financial help to Pakistan Hockey ahead of Champions Trophy in Chennai

Karachi. The government has allocated Rs 2.5 crore to the Pakistan Hockey Federation, paving the way for its participation in the Asian Champions Trophy to be held in Chennai in August. The assistance was approved by Inter-Provincial Coordination Minister Ahsan Mazari following the good performance of the national junior team in the Asian Junior Cup in Oman, an official of the Pakistan Sports Board said. “The amount will be used to meet the daily allowance of the junior team players and officials and the expenses for participation in the Asian Champions Trophy,” the official said.

He also said that the salary of Siegfried Ekman, the Dutch coach of the Pakistani team, would also be given soon. Ekman has left the team and returned home due to non-payment of salary for months. Financial assistance from the government was stopped due to differences between PSBs and PHFs on election and constitutional issues. Now the funds have been allocated due to the issue being resolved.
