Batsmen’s flop show, India lost second ODI by ten wickets

Mitchell Starc’s five-wicket haul helped Australia to bowl out India for 117 in the second one-day cricket match on Sunday, achieving the target in 11 overs and registering a thumping 10-wicket win. Starc, who took three wickets in the previous match, took five wickets for 53 runs, four of which were taken in the first spell. This is India’s third lowest score against Australia. In response, the Australian batsmen had no problem in achieving a simple target.

Mitchell Marsh, who scored a half-century in the last match as well, scored 66 runs in 36 balls with the help of six fours and six sixes while Travis Head remained unbeaten on 51 runs. He hit 10 fours in his 30-ball innings. Australia scored 121 runs without loss in 11 overs and Marsh hit Akshar Patel for the winning four. The first match was won by India and now the third and deciding match will be played in Chennai on 22 March. All India’s bowlers proved to be expensive and could not take any wicket.

Mohammed Shami gave 29 runs in three overs while Mohammed Siraj gave 37 runs in the same over. Akshar Patel gave 25 runs in three overs. Earlier, Sean Abbott took three wickets for 23 runs and Nathan Ellis took two wickets for 13 runs for Australia. None of the Indian batsmen could face the Australian bowlers. Virat Kohli scored 31 off 35 balls while Akshar Patel scored an unbeaten 29 which included two sixes. Starc took four wickets for 31 runs in six overs in the first spell. He dismissed Shubman Gill (0), Rohit Sharma (13), Suryakumar Yadav (0) and KL Rahul (9).

The Indian team got off to a bad start for the second consecutive match and Starc wreaked havoc in the first five overs. He also broke the partnership of Kohli and Rohit Sharma after Gill was dismissed without opening the account in the first over. Rohit was caught by Steve Smith in the first slip. Surya Pagbadha got out on the next ball, who was also dismissed on the first ball in the previous match. He dismissed KL Rahul (nine) lbw in the ninth over.

Even after the review, the decision went in favor of the bowler and after nine overs, India’s score was 48 for four. Abbott caught Hardik Pandya (1) in the hands of Smith on the first ball of the 10th over. Kohli and Jadeja shared a 22-run partnership for the sixth over but Nathan Ellis broke the partnership and took Kohli’s valuable wicket. Jadeja became his next victim and was caught behind the wicket.
