India in U-19 Women’s World Cup finals with Parshvi and Shweta’s brilliant performance

Parshvi Chopra’s three wickets followed by opener Shweta Sehrawat’s unbeaten half-century helped India beat New Zealand by eight wickets in the semi-finals of the Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup on Friday. Parshvi took three wickets for 20 runs, which helped New Zealand’s team to score 107 runs for nine wickets in 20 overs. The Indian team won by losing two wickets in just 14.2 overs on the basis of Shweta’s unbeaten 61 off 45 balls.

‘Player of the match’ 16-year-old leg-spinner Parshvi took the third, fourth and fifth wickets of New Zealand’s innings as the team was 74 for five in the 13th over. Titas Sadhu, Mannat Kashyap, captain Shefali Verma and Archana Devi took one wicket each. New Zealand batsmen were seen struggling to score runs at the Senwes Park ground here. Only Georgia Plimmer (35), Isabel Gage (26), Izzy Sharp (13) and Kelly Knight (12) scored in double digits for the team.

Chasing the target of 108 runs for the win, the Indian team lost the wicket of Shefali (10) early. Shefali could not perform as expected in this tournament. Shweta and Soumya Tiwary (22) brought the team close to the target by sharing a 62-run partnership for the second wicket after the captain returned to the pavilion. Shweta gave the team victory by hitting a four in the 15th over. He hit 10 fours in his unbeaten innings. G Trisha remained unbeaten on five runs. In the final, India will face the winner of the second semi-final between England and Australia.
