My past doesn’t guarantee me direct ticket to IOA president’s post: Bindra

India’s first individual Olympic gold medalist Abhinav Bindra on Friday said that he is currently the representative of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Athletes Commission and is yet to consider leading an administrative role in the Indian Olympic Association (IOA). India’s sprint legend PT Usha recently became the first woman sportsperson to head the IOA and when Bindra was asked why she had not put forward her name for the post, she told PTI, “I am currently the athlete representative in the IOC. .I am a member of the Athletes’ Commission of the IOC and my role is valid for two years now. ,

Bindra was appointed to the IOC Athletes Commission in 2018, in which his role is to act as a bridge between administrators and athletes and to act in their best interests. He is in the city as the brand ambassador of Tata Steel Kolkata 25K. He also said that joining the IOA in an administrative or executive position would have been a conflict of interest as he was still in the IOC.

“My past does not guarantee me a direct ticket for the post of president in IOA so I should be prepared for what I will have to think about,” he said. Bindra said, “I want to end my IOC term. I want to contribute to the ongoing project and I am fully involved with the IOC, whether it is about the mental health of the athletes or their welfare. I cannot be an athlete representative and an administrator at the same time. I haven’t thought deeply about it.
