ICC’s action against Harmanpreet Kaur, banned, Team India captain will be out of this match

Indian women’s team captain Harmanpreet Kaur has been suspended for the next two international matches after two separate breaches of the ICC Code of Conduct. The ICC reported thatThe incidents happened during the third match of the ICC Women’s Championship series against Bangladesh in Dhaka on Saturday. The Indian captain admitted the offense and agreed to the sanctions proposed by Akhtar Ahmed of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees. As a result, there was no need for a formal hearing and the penalty was implemented immediately.

What happened

The incident took place on July 24, 2023, when Kaur expressed her dissatisfaction with the umpiring decision by hitting her bat on the stumps and gesturing against umpire Tanveer Ahmed. She was found guilty of breaching article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel relating to “showing dissent at an umpire’s decision”. Kaur was also fined 25 per cent of her match fee for a Level 1 offense relating to “public criticism in relation to an incident in an international match” when, during the presentation ceremony, Kaur openly criticized the umpiring in the match.

The standard of umpiring is very disappointing

Indian women’s captain Harmanpreet Kaur on Saturday criticized the umpiring during the third ODI against Bangladesh, terming it as “very disappointing”. Bangladesh bundled out India for the same score in 49.3 overs after scoring 225 for four in the last match of the three-ODI series. While chasing the target, the Indian team was in a good position at one stage scoring 191 runs for four wickets but after that the team lost the last six wickets in 34 runs. Harmanpreet had said that we got to learn a lot from this series. Apart from cricket, I am surprised by the kind of umpiring done. I think we will have to come prepared for these kinds of things (of poor umpiring) on ​​the next tour of Bangladesh.
