Newzealand holds the record of getting out on the lowest score in a Test match, the team was able to score 26 runs

Cricket is a game of uncertainties. It is not at all possible to predict in advance which team will prevail over whom in this game. The moment the losing team wins, it doesn’t take long for the winning team to get out of hand. Along with uncertainties, it is also a game of records and history. There are many such records which make the team and the players proud while many also force to shame.

One such record is in the name of the New Zealand team, which was made by the Kiwi team on March 28 itself, which the team would like to forget at any cost. Actually, this embarrassing record was made by the New Zealand team on 28 March 1955 while playing a Test match against the England team. In this match played at Eden Park in Auckland, the England team bowled such a storm that the entire New Zealand team was bundled out for a meager score of just 26 runs. 26 is the lowest score by any team in the history of Test cricket.

The England team had a great start in this tournament. In the first Test match played at the Oval of Dunedin University, England won by eight wickets, showing a strong game. In the second match too, England showed their confidence and all out New Zealand team on the score of 200 runs. After this, the New Zealand team could not face the confidence of the England players in the second innings. Due to the strong bowling and fielding by the England team, all the New Zealand players were returned to the pavilion on a score of just 26 runs.

In the first innings, the England team had scored 246 runs, after which they had a lead of 46 runs. But as soon as the New Zealand team came on the field to play the second innings, it collapsed like a house of cards. New Zealand had to lose this match by 20 runs. The highest partnership in this innings was for the sixth wicket which was eight runs. New Zealand captain Geoff Rabon scored 7, Halley Cave made the highest partnership of this innings by scoring 5 runs.

The number of batsmen who were dismissed on a score of zero in this match is also a record. Bert Stutcliffe played a key role in taking New Zealand’s score to 26 runs, who scored the highest total of 11 runs. During the match, four batsmen returned to the pavilion without opening the account. Three players had scored just one run each. England’s bowlers, while performing strongly in this match, did not give Kiwi batsmen a chance to stay at the crease. England’s Bob Appleyard and Brian Statham took four and three wickets respectively.
