NEET-UG 2021: SC dismisses plea of students alleging error in Hindi translation of Physics question
The Supreme Court was informed by the Center on Tuesday that a three-member expert committee comprising professors from IIT, Delhi Technological University and National Physics Laboratory, which was set up by the National Testing Agency (NTA), concluded that there was no error . In NEET-UG 2021, there was an error in Physics question in Hindi. Justice D.Y. Chandrachud dismissed a petition by 22 NEET-UG candidates seeking recalculation of their marks due to an alleged error in the Physics question in Hindi. ( neet pg 2021 )

The counsel representing the students argued before the bench that before disposing of their plea, the court would have to go through the physics textbook, which is considered to be the Bible for students. The Bench’s remarks, in which Justice A.S. Bopanna and Vikram Nath said that the book may be Bible for the students, but the opinion given by the professors is like the opinion of Jesus Christ. We have to go by opinion.. said the bench. The bench said the panel of three independent experts held that the answer to the question of physics in Hindi and in English versions was the same. On November 25, the Supreme Court directed the Center to constitute a committee of three experts to examine the correctness of a physics question in Hindi in the NEET-UG 2021 exam.

During the hearing, Justice D.Y. Chandrachud commented. We don’t want to fail in physics, because we don’t know anything about the subject. The bench said that it would be better to examine the physics question in Hindi by experts who understand both Hindi and English. The petitioners had alleged discrepancy in the Hindi version of the question paper, claiming that a question in English had a different meaning. The NTA agreed before the apex court to examine the alleged error in the Hindi translation of the physics question. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing NTA, submitted that the question would be re-evaluated by a panel and an affidavit would be filed in the matter citing the panel’s findings.
