Yashasvi Jaiswal was also the architect of India’s victory, who scored 171 runs in the very first Test. Virat Kohli scored 76 runs in 182 balls but his innings was not fluid and he had to struggle a lot to score runs. Apart from this, he also got two life sentences. The second and final Test will be played at Port of Spain from 20 July. India have not lost a Test in the West Indies since 2002 and will be eyeing a clean sweep to pick up crucial World Test Championship points. West Indies’ second innings started badly and their four wickets fell for 32 runs. On a slow and dry wicket, Indian captain Rohit Sharma handed the ball to the spinners in the fifth over itself. By the time of tea, West Indies’ score was 27 runs for two wickets. Ravindra Jadeja sent T Chanderpaul and Ashwin sent Craig Brathwaite to the pavilion.

Both contributed seven runs. For the West Indies, only Alyque Athanaje could stay for some time in the middle order, who scored 28 runs in 44 balls. He made a sweep shot to Ashwin and excellent square cut to Mohammad Siraj. He returned by giving a catch to Jaiswal at short leg off Ashwin. After this, no Caribbean batsman could play for a long time. Earlier, Jaiswal became the third Indian to score 150 on debut. Playing ahead of their yesterday’s score of 312 for two, India scored 88 runs in 29 overs in the morning session of the third day, losing the wickets of Jaiswal (171) and Ajinkya Rahane (three). Left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican opened the bowling with Holder and Kohli found it difficult to play him.

Kohli was given a life on 40 when Caribbean captain Kraigg Brathwaite dropped his catch. Kohli played Warrican’s ball on the off side but Brathwaite touched the ground in an attempt to take the catch. Jaiswal, on the other hand, hit Warrican for a six. He became the third Indian batsman after Shikhar Dhawan (187) and Rohit Sharma (177) to score 150 on debut. He lost the wicket to Alzarri Joseph and could not score a double century. Rahane took an easy catch in the cover off Kemar Roach. After lunch, India lost the wicket of Kohli (76) while Ravindra Jadeja remained unbeaten on 37.
