Bas de Leede’s century, Netherlands qualify for the ICC World Cup
Called All-rounder Bas de Leede scored a century as the Netherlands made a stunning comeback to beat Scotland by four wickets here on Thursday to qualify for the ICC World Cup starting in India from October 5. The Netherlands thus became the second team after Sri Lanka to enter the World Cup through the qualifiers. This is the fifth time the Netherlands have qualified for the 50-over global tournament, having previously participated in the 1996, 2003, 2007 and 2011 editions. De Leede produced his best performance in his 30th ODI, taking five for 52 on debut to bring Scotland under 300. Then he came out to bat in the 15th over while chasing the target and when he returned to the pavilion after being dismissed, the Netherlands needed just three runs to win. Credit must also be given to Indian-origin opener Vikramjeet Singh (40 runs) who got off to a good start. Zulfikar also did a good job supporting De Leede.
