India won 202 medals including 76 gold in Special Olympics, PM Modi congratulated

Indian players have made India proud by performing brilliantly in the Special Olympics World Games 2023. Indian players have created history by winning a total of 202 medals in this tournament. In the tournament that ended on Sunday, Indian players have managed to win a total of 76 gold medals.

 

India won 76 gold, 75 silver and 51 bronze medals in these games. The Indian contingent consisted of 198 players and unified partners who competed in 16 sports. Even on the last day of this Special Olympics World Games, the players have made a special contribution. In this match, Indian players won two gold medals, three silver and one bronze medal on the last day.

 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has praised the Indian sportspersons for their stupendous performance in the Special Olympics World Games. Seeing the stellar performance of sportspersons, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said that the country celebrates the spirit of inclusivity in their success. Congratulating the athletes, Modi said in a tweet, “Congratulations to our extraordinary athletes who represented India at the Special Olympics Summer Games in Berlin and won 202 medals including 76 gold medals. In their success, we celebrate the spirit of inclusivity and applaud the tenacity of these remarkable athletes.”

 

After the strong performance of the players in the Special Olympics World Games 2023, President of Special Olympics India, Dr. Mallika Nadda said on the performance of the Indian contingent in the Berlin Games that most of the players have to face discrimination. Athletes are discriminated against in many ways at the societal level which is fundamentally wrong. The achievements that the sportspersons are making in the field of sports are wonderful and proud. Players have brought many medals for the country on the basis of strength, speed, concentration and discipline, which is praiseworthy.

 

Significantly, the Special Olympic Games are known as Special Olympiad, in which sports platform is provided to intellectually disabled players. The aim of the sport is to enable people with disabilities to showcase their skills on a world stage.
