IPL 2023: Cameron Green and Suryakumar Yadav’s innings went in vain, Mumbai lost to Punjab in a thrilling match

Punjab Kings defeated Mumbai Indians by 13 runs in a closely contested match at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Batting first, Punjab scored 214 against Mumbai Indians. Mumbai had to score 215 runs to win. But the Mumbai team could only manage 201 runs for 6 wickets. However, at one point Mumbai Indians looked very strong in this match. But later due to the fall of wickets, Mumbai went away from victory. Mumbai had a bad start and the first blow came in the form of Ishaan Kishan on the score of 8 runs. However, Mumbai bounced back after a brilliant partnership between Cameron Green and Rohit Sharma. Rohit Sharma was dismissed for 44 while Cameron Green played an innings of 67 runs in 45 balls. Suryakumar Yadav also played a blistering inning of 57 runs in 26 balls which included 7 fours and 3 sixes. From Punjab, Arshdeep Singh bowled brilliantly and achieved four successes by giving 29 runs in 4 overs.

Punjab Kings scored 214 for eight against Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL) T20 match on Saturday, thanks to a quick half-century innings by stand-in captain Sam Curran and a 50-ball 92-run partnership for the fifth wicket with Harpreet Bhatia. Made a big score. Curran hit five fours and four sixes in his 29-ball 55 while Bhatia hit four fours and two sixes during his 28-ball 41. Jitesh Sharma hit 25 runs in seven balls hitting four sixes as Punjab scored 96 runs in the last five overs. Piyush Chawla was the most successful bowler for Mumbai Indians, taking two wickets for 15 runs in three overs. Jason Behrendorff, Cameron Green, Jofra Archer and Arjun Tendulkar also got one success each but all these bowlers proved to be expensive. Arjun scored 48 runs in three overs while Behrendorff scored 41 runs in the same over. Green and Archer gave 41 and 42 runs respectively in four overs. After opting to field first, Green gave Mumbai their first breakthrough in the third over of the innings after getting rid of Matthew Schott (11 off 10 balls) for a boundary.

From the other end, opener Prabhsimran Singh (26 off 17 balls) hit two sixes against Jason Behrendorff, while Atharva Tayde (29 off 17 balls) hit a six over the slip against Jofra Archer. Both the batsmen hit one boundary each against Piyush Chawla in the sixth over to take the team’s score to 58 for one in the power play. In the next over, Arjun Tendulkar trapped Prabhsimran Singh lbw and broke his 25-ball 47-run partnership with Tayde for the second wicket. Chawla gave Punjab two blows in the 10th over. While Liam Livingstone (10 runs in 12 balls) was stumped, Tayde played the ball on the wicket. Harpreet Bhatia and captain Sam Curran could only muster 22 runs in the next four overs. Curren accelerated the run rate by hitting a six against Hrithik Shokin in the 15th over, while he welcomed Tendulkar with a six in the 16th over. In this over, he gave a four root strike to Bhatia who hit six and two fours. Punjab collected 31 runs from this over. This is equal to the most expensive over of this IPL, Harpreet against Archer, while Curran hit sixes in two consecutive balls against Green. Green bowled Bhatia on the fourth ball of the 18th over but Jitesh Sharma, who came to the crease, hit two consecutive sixes. Curran completed his first half-century of this season by hitting two fours against Archer in the 19th over but was dismissed on the last ball. Jitesh Sharma took the score past 200 by hitting two sixes against Behrendorff before getting out in the last over.
