Asia Cup a thing of the past, now eye on T20 World Cup Super 12: Shanaka

Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka said that the Asia Cup title win is a thing of the past and his focus is on making it to the T20 World Cup Super 12 stage by winning a ‘do or die’ match against the Netherlands. Sri Lanka made a comeback after defeating UAE by 79 runs in the first round match of the tournament after being upset at the hands of Namibia in the first match of the tournament. Third-placed Sri Lanka in Group A will have to beat top-ranked Netherlands in a crucial match on Thursday.

Shanaka said, “Asia Cup is a matter of history. There is no pressure on us. We have to focus on our performance so that we can make it to the next round.” He said, “We know our strength. We didn’t play well in the first match, so we lost to Namibia. But we are a much better team than that.” He praised the performances of Pathum Nisanka (74) and Dushmanta Chamira (3 for 15) in Wednesday’s match but said Bhanuka Rajapaksa would have to score runs now.
