PM Modi did the virtual inauguration of Bengal Hospital, Mamta didi said, we have inaugurated it long ago

On Friday, 7 January, Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated the second campus of Chittaranjan National Cancer Institute (CNCI) in Kolkata, West Bengal. However, a controversy broke out when West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee informed the Prime Minister that she had already inaugurated the hospital. The Bengal CM said that the Prime Minister is inaugurating the project. But let me tell the PM that we had inaugurated it long back. Didi pointed out that this was done at a time when the state needed an isolation center during a corona wave and added that the institute is also linked to the state government. The state is funding 25% of the project and has given land for the campus of the cancer hospital, he also said. The CM, however, thanked PM Modi for inaugurating the hospital. (pm vs mamata didi )

Second campus built at a cost of over Rs 530 crore

Reprimanding Banerjee, BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari, who is the Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly. Sharing a clip of Banerjee’s speech on Twitter, he wrote that not only have you deliberately insulted, trying to hide the fact that, the central government has provided 75% of the funds; i.e. 400 crores, but also undermined the federal politics of India and tainted the sanctity of a serious occasion. How unfortunate. The official further said that the emergency use of an under-construction facility as a safe house during the second wave of COVID-19 was clearly misguided, to defame the formal inauguration of eastern India’s most advanced fully equipped cancer facility. A deliberate effort. CNCI’s second campus has been built at a cost of over Rs 530 crore, out of which about Rs 400 crore is provided by the Central Government and the rest by the Government of West Bengal in the ratio of 75:25. The campus is a 460-bed comprehensive cancer center unit with state-of-the-art infrastructure for cancer diagnosis, staging, treatment and care.

The second campus of CNCI has been built in line with the vision of the Prime Minister to expand and upgrade health facilities in all parts of the country. CNCI was facing a heavy load of cancer patients and for some time the need for expansion was felt. This requirement will be met through the second campus. The campus is well equipped with modern facilities like Nuclear Medicine (PET), 3.0 Tesla MRI, 128 Slice CT Scanner, Radionuclide Therapy Unit, Endoscopy Suite, Modern Brachytherapy Unit etc. The campus will also serve as an advanced cancer research facility and provide comprehensive care especially for cancer patients from eastern and north-eastern parts of the country.
