Bengal 101 runs away from victory against Uttar Pradesh

Openers Kaushik Ghosh (69 not out) and Anustup Majumdar (44 not out) struck unbeaten knocks as Bengal edged closer to victory against Uttar Pradesh on the third day of their Ranji Trophy Group A match here on Thursday. Bengal have scored 156 runs for two wickets in the second innings and are 101 runs away from the target. Friday is the last day of the match. Ghosh hit 10 fours in his 121-ball knock while Majumdar hit six fours. Apart from these two, Sudeep Kumar Gharami also played an inning of 22 runs. Two wickets went to the account of right-arm fast bowler Shivam Mavi (2 wickets for 46 runs).

Earlier, Uttar Pradesh started the day at 122 for four in the second innings. Rinku Singh scored 89 adding 45 runs to his yesterday’s score while Akashdeep Nath scored 53 runs. Apart from these two, only opener Madhav Kaushik (19) could reach double digits from Uttar Pradesh. The Uttar Pradesh team today added 105 runs and lost their remaining six wickets, due to which the team was reduced to 222 runs in 65.3 overs.

For Bengal, fast bowler Akash Deep took three wickets for 52 runs while Sayan Mandal, Pritam Chakraborty and Ishan Porel took two wickets each. Sovima took Uttarakhand’s 127 for one in the second innings to take a 20-run lead over Nagaland. Priyanshu Khanduri is playing 52 while Kunal Chandela is scoring 37 runs. In reply to Uttarakhand’s 282, Nagaland scored 389 in the first innings to take a 107-run lead. Shrikant Mundhe scored 161 runs for the team while Yugandhar Singh contributed 73 runs.

Swapnil Singh took five wickets for 47 runs from Uttarakhand. Baroda came close to taking a crucial first innings lead at 416 for five in reply to Odisha’s 457 in Cuttack. Baroda need 42 more runs to take an edge in this match which is heading towards a draw. For Baroda, Shashwat Rawat scored 135 while Priyanshu Moliya scored an unbeaten 113. Jyotsnil Singh contributed 63 runs. Basant Mohanty took two wickets for 31 runs from Odisha. Haryana’s team is standing on the verge of defeat in another match of Group A in Rohit. After trailing by 441 runs in the first innings, Haryana lost seven wickets for 323 runs in the second innings. Chaitanya Bishnoi scored 97 while Himanshu Rana scored 87 runs.
