Players will get new recognition from ITF women’s tournament, top Indian Ankita-Karman will take part

India’s top-ranked singles tennis players Ankita Raina and Karman Thandi will compete in the ITF Women’s 25K tournament, starting February 26 at the Padukone-Dravid Center for Sports Excellence here. Apart from Raina (ranked 245) and Thandi (265), young players like Sahaja Yamalapalli and Soha Sadiq will also feature in it. The qualifying rounds will be played on 26 and 27 February. According to the organisers, the tournament is going to be very important for women players.

ICICI Lombard sponsored ITF Women’s 25K co-sponsored by Reva University. It is scheduled to be held from 26 February to 5 March 2023 at the Padukone-Dravid Center for Sports Excellence in Bengaluru. The objective is to provide a platform to women tennis players through this tournament.

The tournament will see participation from top ranked female tennis players from all over the world. In this tournament, both singles and doubles will compete for the crown. Let us tell you that the qualifying rounds will be played on Sunday 26 and 27 February and the main draw will start from Tuesday 28 February. According to the organisers, the entry of spectators to the tournament will be free.

The tournament promises to be a great experience for both players and spectators as Ankita Raina, World No. 245 and Karman Kaur Thandi, World No. 265 are the top-ranked Indian women players who will be participating in the tournament. On hosting the event, the organizers say that through this international tennis tournament, the Padukone-Dravid Center for Sports Excellence aims to promote and develop women’s tennis in the country.

This type of tournament helps the women tennis players of our country to earn the required ITF points to climb up in the world tennis rankings. Not only do the players get those vital points, but it also benefits them financially as they save on the travel cost that they would have had to spend going abroad to play in ITF tournaments.

The tournament is a tournament sanctioned by the International Tennis Federation (ITF). It will be organized under the aegis of All India Tennis Association (AITA) and Karnataka State Lawn Tennis Association (KSLTA). Significantly, with the retirement of Sania Mirza, it is now necessary that India is successful in tennis again at the world level, for which women players will have to work hard.
