Spanish Football League: Real Madrid beat Espanyol 3-1

Barcelona. Real Madrid came back from a one-goal deficit to beat Espanyol 3-1 in the Spanish Football League here on Saturday. Joselu Mato gave Espanyol the lead in the eighth minute. Vinicius Junior made it 1-1 in the 22nd minute while Ider Militão put Madrid ahead 2-1 in the 39th minute. Substitute Marco Asensio scored another goal in the third minute of second-half injury time to ensure a 3–1 victory for Real Madrid. With this win, Real Madrid has 56 points in 25 matches and the team is in second place. The team is six points short of top-placed Barcelona.

However, Barcelona have played only 24 matches so far. Madrid rested Karim Benzema in this match, who is recovering from an ankle problem. Benzema is expected to be available for Wednesday’s Champions League tie against Liverpool, according to coach Carlo Ancelotti. Madrid’s team has won the first leg of the last 16 match 5-2. Real Madrid also have to face Barcelona on 19 March.

Last-place Elche held Valladolid to a 1-1 draw thanks to an injury-time goal from Tete Morante. At the end of Valladolid, only eight players were left on the field. Kyle Lerin scored the goal for the team. In other matches, Celta Vigo beat Rayo Vallecano 3-0 while Valencia beat Osasuna 1-0.
