Wimbledon 2023: Djokovic reaches quarterfinals for 14th time after curfew, Alacraz also in top 8

Former world number one Novak Djokovic has registered his 100th win in the tournament. He played brilliantly on the basis of his experience and defeated Hubert Hurkaj in four sets. With this win, Novak Djokovic has made it to the men’s singles quarterfinals of the Wimbledon tennis tournament. Djokovic, a seven-time champion at the All England Club and challenging for his 24th Grand Slam title, beat Hurkacz 7-6 (6), 7-6 (6), 5-7, 6-4 to reach the quarters of Wimbledon for the 14th time. Made it to the finals.
 
Let us tell you that the match between Novak Djokovic and Hubert Hurkaj started on Sunday, July 9, but due to over night, this match had to be stopped due to Wimbledon curfew. Djokovic was ahead by two sets in this match which lasted till 10.30 pm. After this, the match was played again on Monday, July 10, in which Hurkaj was able to win the third set due to his strong serve. However, his victory did not work for him and Nauwak won the fourth set to make it to the next round. Djokovic said after the match, “To be honest, I have never felt so much trouble in the game with the opponent’s serve.” This happened because of his extremely accurate and powerful serve.
 
Let us tell that Hurkaj has not lost any of his serve in this year, he has played 67 games. At the same time, his service has been broken by Novak Djokovic for the first time this year. Novak broke his serve while taking a 4-3 lead in the fourth set of the match. Notably, in this match itself, the 17th seeded Polish player saved all 18 break points on his serve. Djokovic made it to the quarterfinals of the Grand Slam tournament for the 56th time in his career. In the men’s section, the record is recorded in the name of Roger Federer, who reached the quarterfinals of the Grand Slam tournament 58 times. Djokovic will take on Andre Rublev for a place in the semi-finals.

In this tournament, the first seeded tennis player Carlos Alcaraz faced 2021 runner-up Matteo Berrettini. Alcaraz lost the first set in this match. She was challenging to become the youngest player to reach the Wimbledon quarterfinals since Anna Kournikova in 1997. Keys will next face second seed Arina Sabalenka, who beat 21st seed Ekaterina Alexandrova 6-4, 6-0. Defending champion Elena Rybakina also managed to reach the quarterfinals.
 
Rybakina advanced to the next round when Beatriz Haddad Maia withdrew from the match due to a groin injury. When Rybakina was leading 4-1, Maia decided to withdraw from the match. In the men’s section, Chris Eubanks, playing for the first time at Wimbledon, defeated fifth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas 3-6, 7-6 (4), 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 to reach the quarterfinals. He will next face third seed Daniil Medvedev, who advanced to the next round following the withdrawal of Jiri Lehka. The Russian was leading 6-4, 6-2 when Jiri decided to withdraw.
