Canada Open: Lakshya Sen became champion by defeating All England champion Feng
Calgary. Indian shuttler Lakshya Sen clinched his second BWF (Badminton World Federation) Super 500 title with a straight game win over China’s Li Shi Feng in the final of the Canada Open. The 21-year-old had won his maiden Super 500 title at the 2022 India Open. Sen used a mix of incredible speed and skill to beat reigning All England champion Feng 21-18 22-20 in the final here on Sunday. After this victory, Sen told ‘PTI-Bhasha’, “It was difficult in the Olympic qualification year because things did not go my way.” So this win will boost my confidence a lot.
Sen said, I had to give my full strength in some matches. The conditions here were different and it was important to get used to it.” This was Sen’s first title after winning the Commonwealth Games gold in August last year. He is the second player from the country to become the singles champion this year. Earlier in May, H Prannoy had won the Malaysia Masters. Sen showed his strong character in this match by saving four game points in the second game to seal the championship point. He scored a championship point with a powerful spam and then lay down on the court celebrating the victory.

Sen said, “It has been an amazing week for me. I got better as the game progressed, I got used to the conditions and my strategy worked yesterday and today (semi-final and final). I am happy with my performance.” Both the players played some extraordinary rallies of high pace from both sides of the net in the match but in the end, Sen came down heavily against China. This was the 12th meeting between the two players in which Sen was successful seven times. This victory was very important for Sen’s confidence. He had slipped to No. 19 in the rankings after struggling to find his form at the start of the season.
