Injured Hazlewood will not play first test, uncertain to play in second test as well

New Delhi. Australia pacer Josh Hazlewood, who is recovering from an injury, will miss the first Test against India starting February 9 in Nagpur and is also not certain to feature in the second Test in Delhi. The 32-year-old Hazlewood suffered a left leg injury during the rain-hit Test against South Africa last month. “Can’t say about the first Test,” Hazlewood told ‘Cricbuzz’ after Australia’s last practice session at the KSCA Stadium in Bengaluru. There are only a few days left in that. After that there is not much time in the second Test as well. Let’s see.” If Hazlewood does not play, Scott Boland may get a chance. Mitchell Starc is already out of the first Test due to a finger injury.

Hazlewood said, “Workload management is important right now. I am able to practice a little bit. I have not fully recovered yet. It is disappointing to play only one Test at a time. ”He could play only one Test against the West Indies and then got injured. Despite the injuries, his priority remains Test cricket as Australia are scheduled to play the World Test Championship final and have an Ashes series ahead. He said, “My thinking has not changed. I think match by match. It is a big and long tour and we have four Tests to play. Apart from this, there is also the Ashes to play.
