Argentina: Millions of people descended on the streets of Buenos Aires, players did ‘aerial parade’

Buenos Aires. Millions of people took to the streets of Buenos Aires to celebrate Argentina’s World Cup win after 36 years and catch a glimpse of their favorite players, causing traffic jams and halting the parade. People were carrying flags, they were dancing and singing enthusiastically but their number was so high that due to this the parade of players had to be stopped in an open bus and they had to be paraded in a helicopter. The Argentine government called it an air parade. “The world champions are flying the entire route by helicopter as it was impossible to continue the parade by road due to the large number of people arriving,” Gabriela Cerruti, a spokeswoman for President Alberto Fernandez, wrote on social media.

Helicopters flew over places in Buenos Aires where fans gathered. The helicopters then flew to the headquarters of the Argentine Football Association outside the capital. Some fans still celebrated in the streets, but many fans were disappointed that they could not catch a glimpse of their team winning the World Cup for the first time since 1986. Diego Benavidez, 25, who has been waiting since morning to catch a glimpse of the team, said, “We are angry because the government did not organize it in an orderly way so that we could celebrate well.” They took away the fun of the World Cup from us.

One of them fell inside the bus while the other fell on the footpath. The head of the football association, Claudio Tapia, blamed government machinery for the change in plan.
