BCCI announces Rs 5 crore award for U-19 World Cup winning T20 team

The Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah announced a prize of Rs 5 crore to the Indian team that won the title in the Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup. India registered a stunning seven-wicket win over England in the final in South Africa. The Indian U-19 team, led by Shafali Verma, managed to clear the final hurdle in the global tournament that the senior team was unable to clear.

Shah tweeted after the title win, “Women’s cricket in India is on the rise and the World Cup win has raised the stature of women’s cricket several notches higher.” I am happy to announce Rs 5 crore as prize money for the entire team and support staff. It is definitely going to be a wonderful year.” The secretary also invited the entire team to visit Ahmedabad on Wednesday. “I invite Shafali Verma and her victorious team to join us at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad and watch the 3rd T20 International on 1st February. This great achievement certainly deserves a celebration.
