Indian boxers Deepak Bhoria (51kg) and Nishant Dev (71kg) registered impressive victories to enter the quarterfinals of the men’s World Championships. Maintaining his impressive run in the tournament, Deepak defeated Zhang Jiamao of China by 5. beat by 0. Whereas Nishant defeated Fokaha Nidal of Palestine in the first round on the basis of RSC (stoppage of match by referee). Such was his dominance that he was declared the winner less than two minutes into the ring. Nishant will face Cuba’s Jorge Cuellar in the quarterfinals.
On the other hand, Deepak pulled off a major upset by defeating Tokyo Olympic bronze medalist and 2021 world champion Saken Bibossinov of Kazakhstan. Deepak was chosen over world championship silver medalist Amit Panghal and he did not disappoint. Besides Nishant and Deepak, Mohammed Hasamuddin (57kg) is also just one win away from a medal. Hassamuddin will take on Bulgaria’s Jay Diaz Ibanez in the quarterfinals.
