Anderson and Broad wrap up New Zealand cheaply to give England a big win

Experienced James Anderson and Stuart Broad took four wickets each in New Zealand’s second innings on the fourth day of the first day-night Test to give England a massive 267-run victory. Stuart Broad (4/49) bowled four New Zealand top-order batsmen to reduce the home team’s score to 63 for five on the third day itself. Anderson (4 for 18) took four wickets on the fourth day of the match. He bowled number 11 batsman Blair Tickner (eight) 15 minutes before the tea break to give England a memorable victory.

Chasing a mammoth 394 for victory in the fourth innings, New Zealand were all out for 127. The pair of Anderson and Broad set a new record of 1009 wickets in 103 Test matches. This record was earlier in the name of Australia’s pair of Glenn McGrath and Shane Warne, who together took 1001 wickets in 104 Tests.

England took an unassailable 1-0 lead in the two-match series. New Zealand had lost five wickets for 28 runs on Saturday. In the opening session of the day, Jack Leach broke his 40-run partnership with Daryl Mitchell by walking Michael Bracewell. Bracewell could not add to his yesterday’s score of 25. Mitchell was scoring runs from one end and wickets continued to fall from the other end. Mitchell remained unbeaten on 57 in 101 balls with the help of six fours and two sixes.
