Tamil Nadu held Mumbai to a draw even after Jaiswal’s aggressive half-century innings

Young Mumbai opener Yashasvi Jaiswal (66 not out from 60 balls) scored an aggressive half-century as Mumbai team fell 74 runs away from winning their Ranji Trophy Group B match against Tamil Nadu here on Friday. Chasing 212 for victory, when Mumbai were 137 for three in 24.2 overs, both the captains agreed to draw the match. Earlier, Tamil Nadu, batting ahead of the previous day’s score of 380 for four, batted in two sessions and after adding 168 runs, the entire team was dismissed.

Pradosh Ranjan scored an unbeaten 107 for Tamil Nadu while Vijay Shankar contributed 103 runs in 174 balls. Chasing 212 in one session for the win, Prithvi Shaw (15) and Jaiswal got Mumbai off to a brisk start. However, L Vignesh gave Tamil Nadu the first breakthrough by dismissing Jaiswal. Armaan Jaffer (29) then gave good support to Jaiswal but after Jaffer and captain Ajinkya Rahane (11 runs) were dismissed within five overs, the team thought it right to draw the match. In the other group matches, Andhra beat Hyderabad by 154 runs while Assam and Maharashtra drew.
