Deaths increased, instructions to increase tests

New Delhi. The number of deaths due to corona virus infection is increasing in many states of the country. Meanwhile, most of the states have reduced testing here. Antigen tests are being done in most states instead of RT-PCR. In view of this, the central government has instructed the states to increase testing and asked them to conduct more and more RT-PCR tests. Although the number of corona infected is decreasing and the active cases have come down to less than one lakh 10 thousand but the death toll has increased. However, if we look at the figures of the last 10 days, the rate of death due to infection has increased by more than 120 percent. On November 15, 197 corona-infected people died across the country, while on November 23 it increased to 437. However, due to adjusting the old death toll in Kerala, the number of deaths is also going up and down. Nevertheless, the central government has taken it seriously and has alerted the states by writing a letter.

The Union Health Ministry has written a letter to 13 states on Thursday expressing concern over the decreasing number of corona testing. 11 forest officers have been found positive at the Forest Research Institute in Dehradun, Uttarakhand. On the other hand, 66 students have been found corona positive in SDM Medical College, Dharwad, Karnataka, while all these students have received both the doses. Along with the building of this college with 400 students, two hostels have also been sealed.

However, the Union Health Ministry has said in the letter that if there is a reduction in testing, then the infection will not be properly assessed. It has been said in the letter that within the last few days, the infection rate is also increasing in many states including Bengal. Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan has written a letter to Swarup Nigam, Principal Secretary, Health Department of Bengal, saying that on an average 67,644 tests were being done till June 2021. These have now been reduced to 38,600 tests per day till November 22. Bhushan wrote in the letter that at present the rate of infection in Bengal is 2.1 percent, the highest in the last four weeks.

The Union Health Secretary also wrote that instead of antigen test, more attention should be given to RT-PCR test. Apart from West Bengal, the Health Ministry has also written to Goa, Jammu and Kashmir, Kerala, Ladakh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Punjab, Rajasthan and Sikkim. In a letter to Kerala, the ministry has said that the state was conducting 2.96 lakh corona tests every day in August, which has now been reduced to 56 thousand.
